Assault and Male with a Rifle Causes Tense Moments on Bethlehems Southside

Bethlehem Police were responding to a report of an assault early this morning on the Southside of the City when they came upon the suspect running down crowded streets with a rifle.  The individual ran through streets and yards as students were waiting at bus stops or walking to school.  People scattered throughout the neighborhood trying to avoid what was described as a tense situation, at one point the person put the rifle to his head before shooting himself.  The male with the gun and the individual he attacked with a machete were both taken to the trauma center in serious condition.
